What is a PIN and why is it required?

A PIN is a unique 25 or 27 alpha-numeric code used to verify Microsoft Office for Mac was purchased at a participating retailer. Go to www.microsoft.com/mac/getkey to exchange your PIN for a Microsoft Office for Mac Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key.

Where do I find my PIN?

To find your PIN, remove the product key card from the outer package. Scratch off the label on the back of the card which will reveal the 25 or 27-character alpha-numeric code.

Is a PIN the same thing as a Product Key?

No. A PIN is used to verify Office for Mac was purchased at a participating retailer and is used to obtain a Product Key. An Office for Mac Product Key is used to install, activate, and use Office products. You cannot use a PIN to install Office for Mac.

My PIN is not working, what should I do?

If your PIN is not working, try the following:
  1. Verify the PIN was entered correctly. PIN is not case sensitive and is alpha-numeric.
  2. Make sure the PIN has not already been used to obtain an Office for Mac Product Key.  A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key.  If the PIN has already been used, you can log into your account with your Microsoft account (if you established it when the PIN was first entered) to access your Product Key or you can check your email for the confirmation email you received when the PIN was first consumed to access your Product Key.

What is a Product Key?

A Product Key is a unique 25 character alpha-numeric code required to install and activate Office for Mac. It is used to verify that your software is legitimate.

Why do I need a Product Key?

Product Keys are used to install, activate, reinstall, or repair your Office for Mac software. It is important to keep your Product Keys in a safe place.

Do I need a Product Key to install my Office for Mac Software?

Yes. You will need your Product Key to install Office for Mac.

Why should I use my existing Windows Live Account or create a new one?

Using your existing Microsoft account or creating a new account will allow you to access your Office for Mac Product Key at any time on-line in the future.  It is important to use an account and password that is familiar to you to allow you to obtain easy access to your information and to receive email confirmation that will include your Product Key.

Will you send me an email confirmation with my Product Key?

Yes. An email containing your Office for Mac Product Key will be sent to the email address associated with your Microsoft account.
Note: If you are using an email spam blocker tool or junk mail filter, make sure you can receive email messages from microsoft.com.

What happens if I lose my Office for Mac Product Key?

If you set up a Microsoft account initially and lose your Office for Mac Product Key you can return to www.microsoft.com/mac/getkey and sign in using the 'Sign In' link in the top right corner of the page. You can also check your email inbox to find the original email that contains a record of your Product Key.

I registered all of my Microsoft software, why don't I see all of the product keys I own?

This site is only used to store Product Keys for products purchased from a participating retailer and obtained with a PIN. To access your Product Keys, click My Account.

Can I store all my Product Keys on this site?

No, only Office for Mac Product Keys obtained through the use of a PIN are stored on this site.

How many licenses / installations does each product key allow?

Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and Home and Business 2011 allow one user to activate one Office suite on one Mac. If you wish to activate more than one Mac, you will need to purchase multiple copies of Office for Mac, or a single license of the multi-PC/Mac Office Home version.

How is the site best viewed?

This site is best viewed with the following operating systems and Internet browsers:
